US in Progress Wrocław is looking for US independent films at rough cut stage

US in Progress, a two-day works-in-progress event targeted at American independent filmmakers and European buyers will take place in the scope of 3. American Film Festival in Wrocław, Poland on November 14-16, 2012.

Deadline: October 1, 2012, no entry fee.

The organizers are looking for US indie soon-to-be-finished films at post-production stage (rough cuts).

The call for entries is open till October 1, 2012.

The application requirements for the films are the following:

  • Narrative only (no documentaries)
  • Expected duration minimum 60 minutes (feature length)
  • At least one production company needs to be US-based.
  • Films looking for completion money, services, sales agent or European distribution.
  • At least 30 min of the film edited by October 1st , to reach feature format (rough or final cuts) by 10th Nov.
  • Film with no US or international premiere
  • Film with no international sales agent attached
  • Only one film in post-production per production company can be submitted.

The list of accepted projects and a list of buyers/co-producers present will be announced October 22, 2012 on www.americanfilmfestival.pl and www.blackrabbitfilm.com.

The US filmmakers of 6 selected films will be invited to present their projects in the near-to-completion stage (feature length). The organizers offer flights and 3 nights in a 4* hotel in the historical city of Wrocław during American Film Festival (November 13-18).

Around 25 key European buyers will attend as well.

As a bonus to contracts resulting from the presentations and meetings, a jury made of professionals will award one of the selected works in progress with a package of post-production services from European partner companies, among others:

  • DI service worth $10,000.00 at Platige Image, a leading post production and special effects Polish company;
  • up to 150 hours of sound editing or soundtrack at Soundflower Studio worth $10,000.00
  • a free digital master (DCP) from our sponsor DCinex worth $5,000.00
  • Start and End credits by Krakow-based Alvenia Studios worth up to $10.000
  • promotion services from Europa Distribution
  • free registration at Producers Network during Cannes Marche du Film.

US in Progress Wrocław (formerly Gotham in Progress) was started in 2011 in Wrocław by the New Horizons Association and Black Rabbit Film. In 2012, the event expanded to Paris, where it was part of Sophie Dulac’s Champs-Elysées Film Festival). It presents independent US films in final production stages to European buyers, post-production houses and festivals in order to help them achieve completion and to foster the circulation and distribution of American indie films in Europe. The next event will take form of two days of exclusive screenings (behind closed doors, for registered guests only) and one-to-one meetings on November 14-16, 2012.

US in Progress Wrocław is supported by the City of Wrocław, Embassy of the United States in Warsaw and Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

The Paris edition attracted more than 50 distributors, producers and sales agents from the whole  world. The winning film, out of four accepted was A Teacher by Hannah Fidell produced by Kim Sherman (Sun Don’t Shine).
