Three US in Progress films selected for Sundance

Winner of the Paris edition and two titles from the Wrocław edition to screen in the NEXT <<==>>  section of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

US in Progress is the first industry event in Europe devoted entirely to US-indies and focused on the completion and European distribution of American indie feature films at post-production stage.

It screens works in progress of independent American films at closed screenings to a selected group of attending European professionals.

The event is held twice a year: in Wrocław in November (as part of the American Film Festival) and in Paris in June (during Champs-Elysées Film Festival).

US in Progress organizers were very pleased to hear that three films promoted through US in Progress in 2012 were selected for the NEXT <<==>> section of 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

Hannah Fidell’s A Teacher starring Lindsay Burdge, is the 2012 winner of US in Progress Paris. I Used To Be Darker by Matt Porterfield and Milkshake by David Andalman were  awarded at the 2012 edition of US in Progress Wrocław. I Used To Be Darker received promotion and distribution support from Europa Distribution and CICAE, while Milkshake’s producer, Mariko Munro, got a free pass for the 2013 Cannes Producers’ Network. Congratulations!

Sundance describes its NEXT <<==>> section as: “Pure, bold works distinguished by an innovative, forward-thinking approach to storytelling. Digital technology paired with unfettered creativity proves the films selected in this section will inform a ‘greater’ next wave in American cinema.”

US in Progress organizers are very proud that 3 films out of 10, which were selected and presented in Paris and Wrocław were also spotted by Sundance programmers.

US in Progress’ previous success stories include Jason Cortlund & Julia Halperin’s Now, Forager: a Film About Love and Fungi (Rotterdam, New Directors/New Films title sold for distribution to 8 countries by New Europe Film Sales, Gotham Awards nominee), Amy Seimetz Sun Don’t Shine (SXSW, Edinburgh IFF, Gotham Awards nominee) and Devyn Waitt’s Not Waving But Drowning (Sarasota FF, world sales by Premium Films).

US in Progress Wrocław is organized in November by the  New Horizons Association and Black Rabbit Film with the support of City of Wrocław, Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the American Embassy in Poland. Partners include: Platige Image, Soundflower Studio, Alvernia Studios, DCinex, VSI Paris/Chinsel, Europa Distribution, CICAE, Producers Network, IFP, Wajda Studio and US in Progress Paris.

US in Progress Paris is organized in June by Champs-Elysées Film Festival (Sophie Dulac Distribution) and Black Rabbit Film.
