American Docs

The American Docs competition section shows off the many different faces of America, with a repertoire that includes David France's How to Survive a Plague about AIDS activism in the 1980s, a recreation of the transformative years for the LGBT movement; Me @ the Zoo by Chris Moukarbela and Valerie Veatch - a portrait of the popular videoblogger Chris Crocker and his stunning, virtual career; the musical documentary Neil Young Journeys by Jonathan Demme (director of Stop Making Sense), Bayou Blue by Alix Lambert and David McMahon - brutal murders in Hurricane Katrina ravaged and impoverished Louisiana; Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines by Kristy Guevara-Flanagan about why American comic books are dominated by male heroes. A special screening will feature Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope – a portrait of comic book geeks directed by Morgan Spurlock, author of Super Size Me.

Films shown in the premiere sections of  Spectrum and American docs will be judged by audiences and compete for the audience award in two categories: best feature film and documentary.
